Samus Aran is back! Metroid: Other M presents a new chapter in the bounty hunter's life, set chronologically between the events of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.

Revealed at Nintendo's media briefing during the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Metroid: Other M returns to classic 3rd-person perspective 2D platforming action while offering first-person segments familiar to the Prime series. Players use the Wii Remote sideways (minus the Nunchuk) to direct Samus, and can enter first-person view at any time by simply aiming the pointer at the screen.

The game is a collaborative effort between Nintendo, Tecmo's Team Ninja (the team behind the recent Ninja Gaiden series) and D-Rockets (the developers of Other M's cutscenes). Their collaboration is known as Project M. This also marks the first Metroid game since Metroid: Zero Mission to be developed in Japan.

Superb pre-rendered cutscenes give the game a deeper cinematic feel, and Samus is set to break her usual silence with proper voice acting. This time we'll learn more about Samus' past and what makes her tick.

We join Samus right after the events of Super Metroid and the destruction of planet Zebes. While the story remains vague, we know that Samus will be exploring a new space station known as the Bottle Ship. Adam Malkovich himself and the Galactic Federation are set to appear, as are Samus' classic foes the Space Pirates. As the waiting game begins for its 2010 release, check out the officially-released trailers for the game and enjoy a look at some in-game screenshots.
