Missile locations

Each Missile Tank only increases Samus' total by 1. While that initially sounds rather meager, remember that Samus can fully replenish her payload at any time by using the Concentration technique. A whopping 70 Missile Tanks are hidden throughout the Bottle Ship. This gives Samus' arsenal a maximum of 80 when added to the initial 10.

The Speed Booster is needed to reach this item. Travel to the corridor connected to the System Management Room and travel south from there. The next large chamber contains a ruined elevator shaft and is home to a number of Geemers and Reo.

Clear the area out, then climb down to the ground floor. You'll need to Shinespark directly up the ruined elevator shaft, so backtrack further south to give yourself enough room to build up the Speed Booster's charge. Run back into the chamber from there and Shinespark up the shaft to locate this Missile Tank hidden inside a crate.

9.

Travel to the Navigation Room found soon after defeating the King Kihunter. Move through there and travel straight down to the bend in the following L-shaped corridor. Step through the door there to discover a long corridor with a retractable bridge.

Activate one of the terminals at either end to retract the bridge, then climb down below. This Missile Tank hides inside a crate within an alcove down at the far end. A sneaky tunnel opening can be found around halfway down the corridor, but it leads to a dead-end just short of the Missile Tank's alcove.

Instead, go back towards the entrance of the corridor and enter first-person view before climbing up the platforms to the bridge. See the small tunnel opening on the left? Roll inside this normally out-of-sight tunnel and follow the path to arrive in the Missile Tank's alcove.

10.

Soon after the King Kihunter battle (and near the room containing the previous Missile Tank), you'll discover a long corridor partially submerged in water.

Take a dip and move through the underwater region, clearing out any Skultera along the way. Look for a lone Whipvine covering a small hole in the wall - pump a Missile into the target (they work underwater!), then climb inside the uncovered pipe to find this Missile Tank.

11.

There's an enormous jungle cavern where the water level needs to be raised and lowered to proceed (you'll pass through it soon after defeating the King Kihunter and just before the Groganch encounter). Travel to the far end of the chamber and look underwater for a hidden tunnel tucked away in the far corner - this Missile Tank waits patiently inside.

13.

You'll need the Grapple Beam to reach this one. Travel to the massive arbor chamber - home to the gargantuan tree with a spiraling walkway around it. Move north from here to a jungle-themed corridor with a tall cliff obstructing the passage through the area.

Look up above to spot a Grapple Point - use it to reach the top of the cliff. Search for a tiny tunnel opening camouflaged on the right side of the cliff. Enter Morph Ball mode and lay a bomb beside the obstruction at the entrance of the tunnel. Roll inside the quaint little cave to find this Missile Tank hidden within a crate.

14.

The Grapple Beam will allow you to reach this item. Travel to the large circular chamber (surrounded by foliage behind glass walls) near the entrance of this sector, where many battles take place. There's a Grapple Point visible behind a smashed window - use the Grapple Beam to pull Samus through. Once out of the chamber, look for this Missile Tank hidden within a crate nearby.

Take note that you might not be able to use the Grapple Point until after the Mighty Griptians inhabit the area late in the game.

15.

The Speed Booster is needed for this Missile Tank. Near the entrance of the wrecked pipe section that leads into the Subterranean Control Room lies a long dirt tunnel (down the far end is an area home to several Gripper - the venus fly-trap creatures).

Near the wrecked pipe is a tall dirt shaft leading skyward - perfect for a Shinespark leap. Firstly, run back down the dirt tunnel to the Gripper habitat on the left to give yourself enough room for the Speed Booster.

Run back to the right and Shinespark directly up the tall dirt shaft. A good aim will send Samus crashing through the dust and dirt high above. Locate this Missile Tank hidden within a crate in a sealed alcove up on the right.

16.

Super Missiles and the Space Jump will aid in the retrieval of this item. Travel to the Navigation Room in the north-western region of Sector 1. Beyond this chamber lies a long jungle-themed corridor home to a hologram generator (normally you pass through here on your way to the Biological Experiment Floor where the King Kihunter encounter took place).

Deactivate the hologram generator to reveal a Super Missile blast shield high up on the eastern wall, near the Morph Ball tunnel exit. Stay on the hologram generator's platform and dismantle the blast shield from there. Simply Space Jump over to the open alcove to retrieve this Missile Tank waiting inside.

17.

The Speed Booster is required here. Travel down to the bottom of the elevator shaft where a Ghalmanian (chameleon-type creature) tried to pull Samus down as the elevator platform crushed it.

Right outside the door at the bottom lies a chamber full of Geemers - take a close look at the light streaming in from a hole in the ceiling. You'll need to Shinespark up through this hole - use the adjacent long corridor filled with Bulls to build up the Speed Booster's charge.

You'll streak through a maintenance tunnel and bust through into the chamber at the top of the elevator shaft. Backtrack and descend the maintenance tunnel, keeping an eye out for a small opening on the left wall roughly halfway down. Climb inside and use a bomb to break open the crate hiding at the end of the tunnel - this Missile Tank waits inside.

19.

Super Missiles and the Speed Booster are needed for this Missile Tank. Travel back to the Breeding Room area - along the way you'll find a Super Missile blast shield blocking a doorway. Originally you followed a network of pipes to bypass it, this time dismantle the shield.

Make sure the door opens smoothly (without a loading transition), then go back to the entrance of the corridor on the left. As soon as you touch the door (you might see a "Now Loading" message appear on the screen, quickly turn back before the door opens), begin running back to the right to build up the Speed Booster's charge.

Enter the next chamber and almost immediately hold 2 and Shinespark directly up. If performed correctly you'll soar up a hidden shaft to where this Missile Tank awaits inside a crate.

21.

Super Missiles, the Speed Booster and the Grapple Beam are all needed to reach this item. Move to the lush jungle area outside the Breeding Room region (where you first met the small playful bird). A tall slope, too slippery to climb, resides back at the entrance of this area where you originally entered near the beginning of the game. Use the Speed Booster to ascend the slope and clear out any spiky thorns obstructing the path.

Once at the top, turn around and look back down the slope. See the Super Missile blast shield on the ceiling further down? You'll need to slide down the slope, enter first-person view and destroy the shield before slipping past it.

Try to fill up the charge gauge before starting your descent, then begin the slide and continue to hold 1 while entering first-person view. Quickly lock onto the blast shield and release 1 before passing it.

Scoring a hit will reveal a shaft leading up, along with an emerging Grapple Point. Use the Speed Booster to run back up the slope, then slide down again and catch the Grapple Point on the way. The Grapple Point will then graciously hoist Samus up to a very-well hidden alcove where this Missile Tank awaits inside a crate.

22.

The Speed Booster is required to reach this Missile Tank. Travel to the huge arbor chamber near the entrance of Sector 1, then climb up the spiral walkway surrounding the enormous tree. At the very top lies a dead-end - backtrack to give yourself enough room for the Speed Booster, then run up to the dead-end. Shinespark directly up to locate this Missile Tank resting on a platform high above.

23.

The Speed Booster and Gravity Suit will help to reach this item. In the same water-filled corridor as Missile Tank S1.10 above, down at the end of the corridor lies an underwater grate.

Dive into the water and begin running at the grate from afar to engage the Speed Booster (keep firing to knock down any Skultera along the way). Blast through the grate when the Speed Booster engages to locate this Missile Tank hiding in a small adjacent chamber.

24.

You'll need the Space Jump to reach this one. Just beyond the Navigation Room neighbouring the huge rain-swept jungle area (where you fought your first tree-like Groganch creature) is a long L-shaped corridor home to a number of Zeros and Kihunters. Turn the corner and take a look directly ahead - right above the lower exit lies this Missile Tank inside a cosy alcove. Use the Space Jump to fly over and claim your prize.

25.

The Wave Beam will grant access to this item. Travel up to the observation room of the massive rain-swept jungle region (which is just beyond the location of the previous Missile Tank).

Once there, exit the room via the door on the right and move through to the end of the following long corridor. Keep an eye on the area behind the glass wall in the background - eventually you'll spot a Charge Beam switch hidden in a small glass enclosure.

Energize the switch with your Wave Beam to reveal a small opening in a glass wall nearby. Enter the wilderness enclosure and move to the far end to discover this Missile Tank waiting there (watch out for wildlife hiding among the bushes).

26.

This Missile Tank is a sneaky customer, and requires the Speed Booster to reach. If you visit the giant multi-leveled chamber beside the outdoor Biosphere Test Area, you might be able to see this Missile Tank resting atop a platform in one corner. Even with the Space Jump however, the game won't let you fly across to the platform, so there must be another way up there.

If you return to the large curving jungle region back past the Navigation Room, climb down to the metal walkway running along the left side of the chamber. Take a closer look at the dirt wall found at the end of the walkway - try locking onto it.

The target reticule will reveal a Speed Booster weakness, so backtrack along the walkway to give yourself enough room and build up the Speed Booster's charge. Blast through the dirt wall to locate an underground tunnel. Keep going straight through the hidden corridor to eventually find yourself conveniently right beside this Missile Tank.

3.

The first gorgeous outdoor area of Sector 2 houses your first encounter with a Kyratian (nasty two-legged monster with a pair of whip-like turrets on its back). Once you've dealt with the beast, take a close look at the exit up ahead.

On the right side of the door lies the mouth of a small stream running through the region. Enter Morph Ball mode and roll inside to discover a hidden tunnel - this Missile Tank is waiting right at the end.

4.

Soon after facing the first Kyratian, you'll find yourself indoors between two outdoor regions. Two Dessgeegas inhabit the chamber and must be defeated to move onward.

Once they're gone, look for the opening of a ruined piping section near the exit (a soft red glow reveals its location). Climb inside with the Morph Ball and follow the piping around to a hole in the ceiling. Leap through here to find this Missile Tank living in a tiny alcove above the ceiling.

Click for larger view

5.

Adjacent to the chamber where the previous Missile Tank lived is a huge ice cavern filled with stalactites. You'll shoot down these stalactites while engaging two Kyratians. Clear both hostiles out and head for the far end of the cavern.

This Missile Tank is hiding inside a tiny tunnel in the second lake - stand on the bank of the lake near the exit and look for a small visible tunnel opening down below. Hop into the water and try to catch the edge of the hole, then climb inside to find this Missile Tank waiting there.

6.

Travel to the large chamber where Samus discovers a lifeless, partially-frozen Gigafraug. Take a look at the wall behind the remains of the creature, see the three large exhaust fans?

The two on the right are blowing cold air into the chamber - enter first person-view and strike the center fan with a charged Ice Beam blast. Doing so will freeze the fan in place, allowing you to crawl inside a hidden ventilation tunnel behind it. Roll through to discover this Missile Tank hiding inside a crate in a small chamber.

8.

This Missile hides out in the same long corridor where Adam authorises the Speed Booster. Backtrack to the entrance of the corridor and begin running towards the steep slope ahead. Once the Speed Booster kicks in, keep running right up to the apex of the slope.

As soon as you reach flat ground at the top, hold 2 to engage the Shinespark, then hold Down on the D-Pad (which is the opposite direction Samus is facing, or back towards the slope). Release 2 to leap way over to a hidden alcove where this Missile Tank resides inside a crate, high above the slope below.

11.

Soon after the previous Missile Tank, you'll find yourself in a colossal, long icy corridor where Shinesparking is required to proceed further. See the huge pylons hanging from the ceiling? This Missile Tank rests atop the first one nearest the exit.

Defeat the trio of Volfons here to reveal its position on the map. Run down to the icy cliff up ahead, then run back and build up the Speed Booster's charge. Watch Samus pass the blue dot on the map - immediately after she passes the dot, leap straight up into the air. Hold forward to either land directly on the Missile Tank's ledge or to grab hold of the edge.

You can also easily reach this Missile Tank once the avalanche has filled the area with packed snow. Once you have the Grapple Beam equipped, return here and use the lone Grapple Point to scale the debris, then simply walk over to the Missile Tank (the snow has filled the chamber right up to its position!).

12.

Super Missiles are needed to reach this one. Go to the connecting corridor between the main elevator of Sector 2 and the nearby Navigation Room. On the right side of the corridor lies a small Super Missile blast shield. Dismantle it and climb inside to locate this Missile Tank hiding inside a short tunnel.

13.

In the southern region of Sector 2 is a long corridor where you initially face a Gigafraug and a Himellla nest (there's a Power Bomb blast shield on one of the walls too). Normally you need to clear ice obstructions off a grapple lift to be able to reach a terminal to unlock a door. Near this door is an ice stalactite in the ceiling, directly above an indentation on the ground.

Fire a Missile to dismantle the stalactite, revealing a small opening in the pipe up on the ceiling. Run down to the opposite end of the chamber and begin running back towards the opening, building up the Speed Booster's charge along the way.

Hold down 2 just as Samus reaches the indentation, then Shinespark directly up, sending Samus snugly into the hole. She'll hit the ceiling and begin to fall; quickly jump forward (the Space Jump will help) and grab hold of the edge of the pipe. Pull yourself up and roll forward to find this Missile Tank hiding at the end of the pipe.

15.

The Space Jump and Gravity Suit are needed to track down this Missile Tank. Deep in the south-eastern region of Sector 2 lies a number of chambers with reversed and increased gravity, making it difficult for Samus to move around. Once you have the Gravity Suit, go to the large multi-leveled chamber near the end of the region where two Grapple Points live. Geemers and Baristutes inhabit the area too.

Ascend to the very top of the area and climb up to the right of the Grapple Point there. Use the Space Jump to fly left, past the Grapple Point and over to the wall. Hit the wall and wall-jump directly up the now-visible shaft. This Missile Tank awaits high above in a snug alcove.

Click for larger view

16.

This Missile Tank is also hidden in the gravity-affected areas of Sector 2, so you'll need both the Space Jump and Gravity Suit to reach it. Near the beginning of the region is a massive blue-lit chamber home to a number of Geemers and platforms adorned with red running lights.

The Missile Tank is hidden inside the wall to the left of the platforms (it might be hard to spot among all that blue ambience). Over in the wall on the left is a small glowing tunnel entrance. Space Jump over to the tunnel opening from above and catch hold of it as Samus falls. Climb inside and roll to the right to reach your upside-down prize.

Soon after the boss encounter in the Geothermal Power Plant concludes, you'll find yourself descending a narrow shaft where some Nova live.

Normally you need to strike a switch further down with a Charge Beam hit to partially unlock a hatch. Scale down the shaft (don't go all the way down into the lava at the bottom) and keep an eye on the left side of the shaft for a small opening. Climb inside and roll through the tunnel to discover this Missile Tank waiting there (how on Earth did it get there?).

If you missed this one initially and need to go back to the shaft to find it, use the bomb launcher in the chamber beside the main elevator of Sector 3 to arrive there quickly.

9.

The Wave Beam is needed to reach this item. Take a look at the floor of the transparent tunnel immediately after the segment that Vorash dismantles in an attempt to gobble up Samus - there's a small sealed hatch there.

Look at the rocky formation outside the window on the right to spot a Charge Beam control switch mounted on the rocky surface. Use the Wave Beam to deliver a charged blast into the switch. With the hatch open, enter Morph Ball mode and roll inside to locate this Missile Tank hiding at the end of a long pipe.

10.

Power Bombs are required here. Travel to the north-eastern area (when viewing the map in the sub-screen) of the huge magma ocean. A cluster of unremarkable stalagmites can be found along the same path you took when Vorash would leap out of the lava trying to eat Samus (Magdollites now inhabit the area). Look for a trio of helpful fireflies to pinpoint the exact location.

Enter first-person view and take a look at a lone stalagmite - scanning it reveals that a Power Bomb can damage it. Deploy a Power Bomb to dismantle the stalagmite and reveal this Missile Tank's inexplicable location within it.

Climb up the stairwell of the lab mentioned in the previous Missile Tank and have a look around. Over on the left wall you'll spot this Missile Tank within a small glass enclosure, but there's no obvious way to reach it.

Take a closer look at the large computer terminal in the center of the room - three of its four sides show displays monitoring the three main sectors of the Bottle Ship - but what does the fourth side display?

Look around behind the terminal to find a big open space instead. Climb inside and wall-jump up through the hole in the ceiling there, then use the Morph Ball to explore the narrow tunnel found above. Follow the network of tunnels to eventually find yourself inside the glass enclosure below - simply roll to the right to reach your prize.
