Search View Guide
Throughout Metroid: Other M, there are several moments where players are sent into first-person view (or "Search View") and must look for a specific object on-screen in order to proceed. This guide summarises all the Search View segments in the game, offering clues and solutions to help players work out the answers. Watch out for spoilers below!

Segment #1
Location: Main Sector
Scenario: Looking at a parked dropship
Let's get started with our first one. This segment is simple enough, just take a close look at the starship and search for something that identifies the owners of the ship.

Target the large Galactic Federation emblem on the starboard side of the ship to continue.
Segment #2
Location: Main Sector
Scenario: Meeting the 07th Platoon
Once the cutscene introducing the 07th Platoon ends, you'll be facing a blast shield in first-person view. What can Samus do to help here? You already have access to Missiles, so give them a try.

Lock onto the blast shield and fire a single Missile to destroy it, allowing Lyle (one of the Federation troopers) to pry the door open manually.

Location: Sector 1
Scenario: After exiting the Breeding Room area
You'll be facing a long jungle path, which is now devoid of Wavers and Geemers. This segment shouldn't be too difficult to solve. Remain still and look for something unusual in the foliage (it might take a few seconds to see it).

Look for a moving fern bush on the left side of the screen, then target the left-hand branch of the fern to complete the segment.

Location: Sector 1
Scenario: At the bottom of the Biological Experiment Floor
After falling to the bottom of the hive structure in the Biological Experiment Floor, Samus is sharing the chamber with something nearby. Sweep your view around and look for any moving objects in close proximity.

Look around to eventually discover a cluster of small brown creatures milling about. Target any one of them to complete this segment.

Location: Sector 1
Scenario: Inside the Exam Center (1)
A dead Zebesian lies inert on the floor as Samus inspects it. This is a tricky segment, as you need to look for something very tiny on the body of the Zebesian that helps identify where it came from. The identifying mark is on the upper body.

Target the tiny Galactic Federation emblem on the Zebesian's damaged chest plate, right below the creature's neck.

Location: Sector 1
Scenario: Inside the Exam Center (2)
In an empty chamber within the Exam Center, a drop of liquid falls from the ceiling. Seeing as there's nothing down on the floor of the chamber, why not search for the source of the falling liquid and look up? (turn up the volume too, can you hear faint noises coming from somewhere?)

Several very-much-alive Zebesians are clinging to the ceiling - simply target one of them to end this segment. You can also look up and target one of them as soon as you enter the chamber, without walking forward and waiting for the liquid to fall.

Location: Sector 1
Scenario: After defeating the Mystery Creature
This search-view segment is ridiculously hard to complete and the solution is not obvious in any way. You'll start off facing the backs of the four troopers as they observe an unfortunate sight. You need to find something of interest in this scene. It's not among the soldiers, so spin around and look for something behind Samus. It's on the ground, and it's not the damaged rover vehicle resting a few metres away.

Turn around to face away from the troopers' backs and look for a splash of green blood - on the green grass - a few paces directly in front of Samus. The blood is hard to see, but it's a darker shade of green than the surrounding grass. Target it to end this segment.

Location: Sector 2
Scenario: At the Experiment Floor
After discovering something important, Samus whirls around, sensing the presence of an observer. You now need to look for them in this search segment. The previous cutscene showed the relative position of the observer, so you should be to work out where they are inside the glass tunnel.

A girl wearing a white coat is barely visible in the window, directly in front of Samus. Target her to end this segment.

Location: Sector 3
Scenario: On the way to the Geothermal Power Plant
Along the path to the Geothermal Power Plant, something very out-of-the-ordinary inhabits a chamber. It needs to be targeted to complete this segment.

The husk of a creature is attached to the wall above the door. Target the open cavity on its back (slightly below the head) to complete this segment.

Location: Sector 3
Scenario: Inside the Geothermal Power Plant (1)
Inside the Geothermal Power Plant, you're stuck behind a pillar and need to find a way out. Look for a viable exit from the chamber.

Out beyond the left side of the pillar, look for the faint green glow of the door far ahead. Target the door to end this segment.
Segment #11
Location: Sector 3
Scenario: Inside the Geothermal Power Plant (2)
You need to look for the magma eruption port. Once found, target it and fire a Super Missile.

The eruption port is on the left side of the door - spin around until you can see the door, then look for a large wall panel beside it. Target it and Adam will authorise Super Missile use; fire the projectile to complete this segment.

Location: Sector 1
Scenario: Following the Federation Trooper
In a long corridor housing a retracted bridge, you need to look around for evidence of what your quarry has done in there moments ago.

Location: Sector 2
Scenario: At the entrance of Sector Zero
Something has been stalking Samus - you need to find it to complete this segment.

Simply turn to your left to reveal the identity of the unseen follower - there's no need to target anything specific.
Segment #14
Location: Bioweapon Research Center
Scenario: Travelling to Room MW
Near the entrance of the Bioweapon Research Center, two differences can be found in the computer room since the last time you were there. One is the missing Power Bomb blast shield pod on the door in the left corner, and the other is what you need to target to complete this segment.

Segment #15
Location: Bioweapon Research Center
Scenario: Inside Room MW
Samus is free to move around in this search segment, but first-person view is still required to find the survivor. Locate and target the survivor to complete this segment.

On the far southern wall (according to the map on the pause menu), look inside the holding cell beside the corner of the southern and western walls. The survivor is inside, huddled in a corner. Target them to end this segment.
