Metroid Recon

Secrets and Tips

Here you'll find a selection of what secrets the game has to offer, from special techniques to unlockable goodies. Found any tricks or handy tips in the game? Please let us know!

Bonus Unlockables (Metroid Prime Trilogy version)

The Metroid Prime Trilogy version of Echoes offers bonus material in much the same way as Metroid Prime 3's credits system, accessible via the global Extras menu. You'll need to collect two types of credits throughout the game to unlock bonus material - and unlike Corruption - all can be gained in a single play-through. Read more information about how credits are awarded at the Credits Guide.

See below for charts detailing all of the unlockable items and their requirements, along with conditions needed to make them available for purchase.

Unlocking Hard mode (GameCube version)

Simply beat the game on Normal mode to unlock the immensely challenging Hard mode.

Unlocking Hypermode (Metroid Prime Trilogy version)

Complete the game on Normal or Veteran mode to unlock Hypermode.

Aiming Jump (GameCube version)

Just like in Metroid Prime, this trick makes leaping across long gaps in the terrain easier to deal with. Aim down at the ground before jumping, then hold your view in place with L (also known as L-locking). Run forward and jump at the right time to have a grand view of what's below (hopefully you'll clear the gap too).

Space Jump Recovery

Falling from great heights won't injure Samus (thanks to her Power Suit), but it will render her stunned for a split second upon impact. Once you've recovered the Space Jump Boots, when falling if you time it right you can execute a jump right before landing, then you'll hit the ground softly.

Boost Ball Trick

The Boost Ball's physical properties really shine when using it in a half-pipe. If you can time your boost release (B) as Samus drops into the half-pipe and just as she begins travelling up the opposite side, you'll eventually build up enough momentum to reach incredible heights, more than enough to reach any items normally too high to secure.

Double Bomb Jump

As with Metroid Prime (although not the case with the Metroid Prime Trilogy version of either game - try flicking the Wii Remote up while in Morph Ball mode), there's no Spring Jump to be found in the GameCube version so only Morph Ball Bombs can launch Samus off the ground while in Morph Ball mode. Instead, you can give yourself an extra boost with a double bomb jump.

Firstly, lay a bomb, then time your second delivery and just as the first is about to explode, lay another. As you reach the apex of the jump, lay a third. You'll fall down and hit the second bomb just as it goes off, propelling Samus up to the third just in time to catch the detonation.

The third bomb will propel you twice as high as a single bomb would, definitely handy for reaching tunnels normally out of reach. Practice the technique to master it.
