The Future of Nintendo - Wii U

E3 2011 is here, and it's all about the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii's successor. Announced a few days ago at the Los Angeles-based E3 show, Nintendo have revealed the Wii U:

The Nintendo Wii U

Touting a 6.2-inch touch screen controller, HD graphics (all the way up to 1080p!) and full backwards-compatibility with Wii accessories and games, it all sounds like a very sweet deal. But that's just the tip of the iceberg - head to Nintendo's E3 website for more details (and a wealth of details about the 3DS too!).

New Zelda and Mario games were demoed on the Wii U, but unfortunately we haven't heard any news of potential Metroid games on the new console or the 3DS. We can still dream though - can you imagine a photo-realistic Metroid Prime-style adventure on the Wii U, or the return of a classic side-scrolling Metroid platformer on the 3DS?

However, one nifty feature of the Wii U is inspired by Metroid: a mini-game called Battle Mii. Players take control of either custom Miis sporting Power/Varia Suit-inspired outfits, or Samus' gunship itself! It sounds like a good concept - swing by IGN for more details and a video demo. Special thanks to The Ogvernment for the link!

Exciting times, bring on 2012!
