Samus Aran custom action figure by Justin Ton
Late 2007, Justin Ton completed work on a custom-made Samus Aran action figure. A brief history in Justin's words:
"She started as a sculpting class assignment. Originally she was a statue with a static pose. At the end of class she still wasn't complete, but I still got an A. I told the instructor that I was going to convert her into an action figure, he called me crazy and told me good luck. That's when I started to do research on mold making and casting. So several months and $$$ later, here she is.
My very first completed project. Have other sculpts, but still in clay form.
Sculpted in Castilene.
Molded in Smooth-On OOMOO 25 Silicone Rubber.
Cast in Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 305 resin.
Rubber joint covers cast in Smooth-On Ecoflex 0030.
Visor is cut out from a 2 liter Sprite bottle.
Painted with Tamiya acrylic paint.
12" tall.
Approx. 22 oz total weight.
Approx. $500 in materials. $1,200 for both tools and materials.
Took over 250 hours from start to finish. A lot of that time was spent through trial and error of different molding and casting materials."
