PSA: Send in your art!

Monday, 26 February 2007 at 04:45 GMT

With news all quiet on Metroid Prime 3's front and the Echoes guide still some way off, I figure it's probably a good time to start expanding the site's coverage. One thing we lack at the moment is some good fan submitted content, so I'm hoping to start up a Fan Art section.

So to all artistic Metroid fans out there, please feel free to help me get the ball rolling and submit your art, whether it be simple sketches, full-colour designs or desktop wallpapers. If I can secure some good pieces I'll fire up a proper Fan Art galleries area, so send them on in!

Ridley SSBB speculation

Wednesday, 21 February 2007 at 02:33 GMT

Found this while doing the web rounds (it's over a month old, I really need to catch up on things, hehe). Paul Starke from Nintendojo compiled a list of speculative characters we might see enter the fray later this year in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Among them is our very own Space Pirate villain Ridley. Although pure speculation, it would make sense for the big N to expand their selection of playable villains (Melee did have Bowser and Ganondorf after all). Looks like only time will tell if we get a chance to take that nasty dragon for a spin.

Metroid merchandise just got a whole lot better

Tuesday, 20 February 2007 at 08:11 GMT

This is a good day for Metroid merchandise. First 4 Figures are producing a range of premium mini statues based on the likenesses of our leading lady.

With Varia Suit, Gravity and Phazon Suit figures planned for 2007, they've just unleashed a very tempting teaser of an upcoming figure based on the Zero Suit Samus from Metroid Zero Mission (and Echoes / Smash Bros Brawl). These things have to be seen to be believed, and must be truly something special (expect to pay around $100 apiece for these).

Reggie talks Metroid

Saturday, 17 February 2007 at 01:41 GMT

Sorry about the lack of updates, real life's been busy (as always) but rest assured the MP2 section's coming along nicely.

In other news, the big N's Reggie Fils-Aime recently spoke about the current status of the Wii and where it's going with respect to Metroid Prime 3's release. From his address:

"What I will tell you about 'Metroid' is that 'Metroid' will be fabulous. I think it's fair to say that all of us were disappointed with the sales of 'Metroid Prime 2,' [the game's developer] Retro included." (awwww, but we still love it) "The focus on 'Prime 3' is to make that the stellar game for a first-person experience on the platform.

"What that means is we're going to make sure it's perfect when we launch it. I think this is one where your readers - the fans of Nintendo, the core gamer - need to recognize that when we release it, it will be perfect. And if that's a little later than folks would have liked, I'm hoping they're going to be happy. They certainly seem to be happy that we took our time with 'The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.' "

Sounding good! If they can nail the control system and bring multiplayer online... that's probably one sure bet to success. Here's hoping it's pulling together nicely. Thanks to Aussie-Nintendo for the snippit.
