Printable guides and quick fanart update

Saturday, 24 November 2007 at 10:27 GMT

Printable versions of each game guide's pages has been something I've kept on the todo list for a while, and now seems like a good time to fire it up before I dig into Metroid Prime 3 coverage. At the base of every guide-centric page you'll find a Print version link, click through if you want to print the page out for a cleaner black-and-white text-only (and minus images) version.

Also, check out two new sketches in the Fan art gallery courtesy of Zach Hillebrant.

Fanart update

Got a quick fan art update for you tonight. First we have four lovely new pieces courtesy of Lars Möller. Secondly, check out an amazing range of images showcasing one cosplayer's serious devotion. Jenni Källberg has constructed a superb set of Samus armour and posed in a batch of photos you'd think were taken straight out of a movie. This is why fandom rocks!

Play Metroid Online

Play Metroid Online Swing by the Metroid Database, they've recently interviewed one of the designers of the Metroid Online modification for Halo Custom Edition. These mods truly take a rare kind of devotion to complete, so be sure to read the interview for an insight into how they come together. Grab the two newly released maps and take hem for a spin (see if you can spot the Wii remote on Isolation - heck, we've seen Mario and Sonic together at last, is it Samus and Master Chief's turn next?).

I've also been busy catching up with Prime 3 and finished the game on Normal the other night. You've probably all read impressions to death by now so I'll sum the experience up in a word - wow. The game is incredibly fun and a fitting end to the trilogy (but not the last one, please, Retro?). I'll have a proper review up soon before getting into the meat of MP3 coverage with our walkthrough.

Metroid Prime 3 launches in Australia

Thursday, 8 November 2007 at 09:10 GMT

At long last Metroid Prime 3 has reached the end of its PAL region delays and arrived in Australia and New Zealand today. If you've been wondering why I've been lagging behind in gearing up coverage for the new game... this is why. Today is my first chance to give the game a spin, so please be patient as I piece together coverage for the final of the Prime trilogy. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll see you after this mission :)

MR turns One

I think this nicely sums up today's occasion:

One year of MR

At first glance you might think that's the worst Metroid completion time in history (it's so bad Samus doesn't even appear!), rather it reflects how long Metroid Recon's been on the web since I launched the site one year ago. I've poured an incredible (some might say unhealthy, hehe) amount of time and effort into the site this past year, and couldn't be happier with the reception I've received from folks dropping by. A big thank you to all of you for helping get this bird in the air, and here's to year two and whatever new adventures Nintendo cooks up for Samus.

Metroid E-Manga

I couldn't let the day go by without setting up something special, so be sure to swing by the new Comics and manga section for a look at the official E-Manga from Nintendo's Japanese Metroid website. This comes courtesy of the kind folks at Mechadrake Assemblies, major thanks to Nadia for this! I've also added the first batch of music tracks from Metroid Prime Pinball - without the ability to switch off sound effects in the game these tracks are mighty tough to record so I'll add more if I can grab clean sessions. Enjoy!
