Ready for some music? After toiling away for a few weeks on extracting, tagging and numbering the musical tracks from Metroid: Other M, I'm happy to finally present the downloadable soundtrack in tasty MP3 format.
This soundtrack proved tricky thanks to an enormous track listing (108!) and the lack of an option to turn off sound effects and voices in the game. I've attempted to position the tracks in the general order they appear in when playing the game from start-to-finish, and the nature of the pre-rendered cutscenes' audio tracks leaves them with music, sound effects and voice-work all mixed together, so I've had to leave the sound effects and voices in them (although I've tried to cut out as much dialogue as possible). I've also kept spoilers to a minimum in the track names, but regardless, please be wary of minor spoilers.
A very big thank-you to the following people who helped make this soundtrack offering possible: thug*, YouTubers OmegaRidley89 and Capoland, the developers of the Dolphin emulator and the developers of vgmstream. A colossal amount of effort went into this project, so enjoy the music!
At last, the first part of our traditional strategy guide for Metroid: Other M is finished... phew. This part includes the Techniques Guide, Power-up Locations, Bosses Guide, Mini-bosses Guide, Obstacles, Game Endings and Secrets and Tips. The only remaining section still to come is the Walkthrough, which I'm hoping to finalise sometime early next year.
I'm also hoping to eventually have the soundtrack available in a similar fashion to all the others, but it will take some time to produce, so please be patient!
Remember Jenni Källberg's Varia Suit cosplay from a few years back? Check out her website for a look at the improved Version 2, which is a brilliant upgrade from the previous iteration. We've seen some incredibly inspired costuming work recently from Yuki LeFay's Varia Suit to Joseph DeRose's Halloween costume, so a huge congrats to Jenni, Yuki and Joseph for their efforts!
If you liked the music in the Metroid: Other M live-action trailer, don't miss this fan-made remix by YouTube user sasukeshika - it's a blast to listen to and superbly catchy. Special thanks to Shinesparkers for the news!
Take it or leave it, the voice acting in Metroid: Other M left a lasting impression. If you enjoyed the first time we heard Samus speak (I did!), be sure to check out an interview GameTrailers conducted with Jessica Martin, the voice behind the English version of Samus in Other M. There's a lot to be learned from this interview, and I found myself appreciating the voice acting moreso after watching it (although that might not work for those who were disappointed with the game's voice work). Go watch!
Just a quick update for our Metroid Prime Trilogy, Hunters and Metroid: Other M maps. I've made some slight changes to brighten the room names and increase the font sizes of items and bosses to make them easier to read. Apart from that, the Other M guides are coming soon!
Has it really been that long? I guess time does fly when you're having fun. Four years ago we launched on this day, and what a ride it's been. So much has happened in the world of Metroid since 2006 and I've enjoyed keeping up coverage of Samus' exploits on this often crazy journey. A big thank-you to all our visitors (new and old) for keeping up with the site and hopefully enjoying what we offer in these walls!
While I would've loved to offer something new to celebrate the occasion, the Metroid: Other M guides are still unfinished, but something should be ready soon. Thank you again for all the support and kind words, and here's to year 5! Congrats to the guys at the MDb for their recent 14th birthday too!
Now this is a fantastic story. Joseph DeRose writes in to let us know about a brilliant Halloween costume he built with his Dad for this year's festivities. Don't be turned off by the premise - the pair have built a complete Varia Suit fit for an 11-year-old, complete with a light-and-sound powered arm cannon.
The design of the cannon is especially inspiring, with user-controlled lighting and sound effects taken from the Prime trilogy. It's always worthwhile to see a gaming fan's imagination brought to life in the prop-making world, so be sure to check out where it all begins in these handful of behind-the-scenes videos:
Check out Joseph's homepage for more info about the project.
