Shinesparkers end-of-year feature

Wednesday, 29 December 2010 at 12:21 GMT

There's a new special feature launched today in the Metroid community. Shinesparkers, one of the newest additions to the Metroid web, organised an interview session back in November with a few of the webmasters in the fan-site community. Discussions ranged from how each site began to which character the webmasters thought should have their own spin-off game (I think that question just about answers itself, but I digress).

I was invited to take part and really enjoyed the proceedings. This was a fantastic event to bring parts of the smallish Metroid community together, and I sincerely look forward to taking part in whatever events we can all cook up in the future. A big thank-you to Darren for inviting me along and for organising everything! Go read!

Super Metroid Remastered Album

Friday, 17 December 2010 at 09:30 GMT

More fan music! An amazing new album of fan-created music inspired by Super Metroid has recently been released. Super Metroid Remastered offers a beefy 20-track album of pure audio remix goodness by Tenchux - one very talented Metroid fan. Head to the Super Metroid Remastered website to find the downloadable tracks in mp3 format.

The album is brilliant listening material, with familiar orchestral, energetic and ambient tunes that should strike it home with any Metroid fan - heck, make that any fan of video game music. Tenchux hopes to raise money for Child's Play, using the album to help raise donations for the charity. The current drive is open until December 22, so chip in if you can!

MDb contest winners and the Battle of the Bounty Hunters

Wednesday, 8 December 2010 at 04:12 GMT

The MDb's Design-An-Enemy contest has come to a close with nearly 50 submissions all up! There's some fantastic entries in this contest (the Metroid Prime Logbook-style ones are a fantastic touch), congratulations to the winners!

Bryan from ScrewAttack also writes in to let us know about DEATH BATTLE! - that's what it's called, honest! This fortnightly series of videos features random characters from pop culture facing off against each other. Starting the ball rolling is none other than Samus Aran Vs. Boba Fett of Star Wars fame. While the video contains mild cussing and some brief 16-bit graphic violence, it's well worth a watch for the production values and crazy narrators.
