A variety of obstacles inhabit the underground mazes of Zebes, hindering Samus' progress.
The main barriers you'll encounter are a multitude of doors designed to keep Samus out of secure areas. Most doors can be opened by firing a certain type of projectile at them.
Blue DoorsThe most common type of doors found on Zebes, just shoot these with any beam weapon or missile to open it. |
Purple DoorsThese can be broken open with five missiles or a single super missile. |

Green DoorsFire a single super missile at these doors to open them. |
Yellow DoorsDetonate a single Power Bomb while in range of these doors to open them. |

Metal DoorsThese indestructible doors can only be opened once they begin flashing. You'll have to defeat certain enemies nearby or complete a certain objective to release the door's lock. |
Guard DoorsYou'll encounter these doors right outside boss rooms. When you walk near them, an eye on the door will open and fire unfriendly energy balls at Samus. Blast the eye with missiles or super missiles to destroy the door. |

Blue ShuttersTo open these shutters simply shoot the blue panel with any beam weapon. |
Green ShuttersShoot the green panel with a single super missile to open the shutter. |
Crumbling BlocksWhen you step on these blocks they'll break away and you'll fall below. Once you pass through the blocks they'll reform and you won't be able to destroy them without stepping atop them again. |
Hook BlocksFire the Grappling Beam at these blocks to swing from them to cross chasms and reach higher platforms. |

Crumbling Hook BlocksYou can grab onto these blocks with the Grappling Beam, but they'll break after a few seconds, so you'll need to swing off from them quickly to avoid falling. |
Speed Booster BlocksThese blocks adorned with arrows can only be broken through by running or jumping through them while the Speed Booster is active. |

Cracked BlocksYou can break through these blocks by firing at them with any weapon. |
Super Missile BlocksBreak through these blocks by firing a single super missile at them. |

Power Bomb BlocksBlocks with an image of a Power Bomb on them can be destroyed by setting off a Power Bomb nearby. |
Samus' gunshipAs her base of operations, Samus can not only save her game in her gunship but completely refill all energy, missiles, super missiles and Power Bombs just by paying the ship a visit. Jump onto the dorsal hatch to enter the ship. |
Save stationsZebes is riddled with rooms containing these save stations. Jump inside one to save your game in case life calls. |

Missile reload stationTouch this device to fully replenish your missile payload. |
Energy recharge stationInterface with this object to fully restore the Power Suit's life energy. |

Map data stationTouch this to download the entire map of the area you're currently exploring. Note that some secret rooms in certain areas won't be downloaded along with the main map. |
Chozo StatuesLeft behind by the mighty Chozo warrior race, these ancient relics hold vital power-ups inside the stone balls clutched in their hands. Shoot the ball open when you find one to reveal the hidden gem inside. |
